No amusement park is complete without mascots and Hard Rock Park has several unique creations – Winston the Punk Bulldog (left w/ Zaira) and the Metal Bear Family: Heavy Dad, Maiden Mom, Glam Gal and Speed Boy.

Apparently they now will also have The Banana Splits as mascots. I remember the kids’ show from the 70s and seem to recall there being some amusement park clips in the beginning, but don’t recall them being particularly musical. Hmmmm…

Anywayz, they weren’t signed on as of yet when we visited for the official opening. We did, however, manage to get a great group shot of Zaira and myself with the entire Metal Bear Family, and Zaira posed with her second-favorite Heavy Metal Bear: Speed Boy as well (Glam Girl was hiding at the time).

We also had the joy of watching the entire Metal Bear Family and Winston playing Hide ‘n’ Seek in the park. It’s pretty cool seeing the mascots actually act like they’re visiting the park instead of just standing around for photo opps.

The critters weren’t the only characters at Hard Rock Park Myrtle Beach, though!

They also had a couple of stilt walkers: a pimp was exploring the Lost In The ’70s midway games are; and a reggae man was cruising around near Reggae River Falls.

I’ve heard reports since our visit that there’s now another stilt walker in the Heavy Metal graveyard (which, oddly enough, is not in Rock & Roll heaven), but again we missed out by attending the official opening day rather than the “Grand” opening nearly a month later.

Abbey Road Cover – Hard Rock Park Myrtle Beach

The cover photo to the Beatles’ 11th album, Abbey Road is one of the most famous and imitated covers in all of rock ‘n’ roll history. So the fine folx at Hard Rock have created a photo opp in front of a huge wall-size mural of the album’s background. Try as we might, Zaira and I couldn’t get the parody to look right, but it was still fun trying. especially since Zaira surprised me by actually having a familiarity with the image.

Although the All Access Pass digital frame is available via the online photo site I wouldn’t recommend it. I went ahead and tried one, but can’t say I’m happy with the results.

Gate Photos – Hard Rock Park Myrtle Beach

Okay, you caught me. That first picture to the left is a joke. But it is the gate at Hard Rock Park! It’s also the backdrop for the souvenir gate photos from Hard Rock Park Myrtle Beach as well. One of the first (of many!) cool things about the Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach is that the front gate photographers actually back the guests up to the front gate in order to take their entrance photos. Obviously this couls become problematic on a busy day, but our first visit was on the first-ever Season Passholder Appreciation Night, so it was far from crowded at any point.

Those are our real gate photos from the first day. The “All Access Pass” digital frame is the only one Hard Rock has available for general use at this point, so you’re going to see it quite a bit over the next couple of days. The really good news is that HardRockParkPhotos.com works as wonderfully as MySixFlagsPhotos.com, so I was able to purchase several additional souvenir photos after returning home.The landmark news is that our collection has now hit a solid 100 souvenir photos! I couldn’t be much happier than to have this first big landmark fall on one of our first out-of-state photos and on the first real distance trip Zaira and I have taken specifically to ride roller coasters and visit a landmark day in amusement park history: the opening of Hard Rock Park.Photos #097-#101
